Jon Stewart lauded the Senate last night for finally passing the Food Safety Modernization Act — OK, almost passing — in the face of stubborn opposition from Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and the bitter, recalcitrant talking heads at Fox News.
He has some fun with Glenn Beck in particular, who sneers that the FDA was created by progressive Theodore Roosevelt as if that’s a bad thing — you know, “that damn FDA, started 100 years ago just to make sure that the milk bottles you got were full of milk, instead of white paint and rat [bleep],” as Stewart mocks.
Perhaps Beck is afraid that he’ll come under FDA’s scrutiny for the “food insurance kits” he’s peddling? Might not be such a bad thing, as salmonella can and will survive in freeze-dried products.
