Climate Experts Say Global Warming Is Really, Really Real — Really
A group of 10 leading U.S. climate researchers expressed frustration yesterday that despite overwhelming scientific evidence that global warming is already underway, U.S. policy makers continue to dither and U.S. citizens remain blithely unconcerned. Meeting at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the researchers did everything but stomp their feet and wave their arms. “By mid-century, millions more poor children around the world are likely to face displacement, malnourishment, disease, and even starvation unless all countries take action now to slow global warming,” said Princeton professor Michael Oppenheimer. The group acknowledged uncertainties around the models used to predict warming, but were unanimous in saying that, if anything, the models underestimate the pace of change. The American public responded to the warning by changing the channel to “Punk’d.”
