I think of seahorses as kind of exotic, near-mythical creatures. At the very least, they’re suburban. But one species, the Lined Seahorse, hangs out in the Lower New York Bay, between Brooklyn and Staten Island. We assume it’s got its own subway system, delis, and off-off-off-Broadway plays down there.
The seahorses can be found near New York City all year round, and their population is increasing — they range from the Tappan Zee Bridge to New Jersey’s Sandy Hook. We’re just going to call that New York’s sixth borough. And furthermore, we’ll predict that with Brooklyn now the second-most expensive place to live in the U.S., and even Queens getting out of some people’s price range, this is actually going to be the new hip NYC locale within a few years.
