Even those of us who are committed to biking, walking, and public transit often have to drive sometimes. We tell ourselves it’s out of necessity — we have too far to go, we have to take the highway, we’ve got a lot of stuff to haul. But you know and I know the real reason: We’re just waiting for the day we can trade our car for a rideable robot ostrich.

Well, Russian inventor collective Konstantin Ivanov knows your secret ostrich dreams. OK, the creaky wooden contraption they’ve come up with may not be an ideal car replacement right now, but the team — which includes no members with actual robotics training — plans to eventually build a rideable robot horse that can travel more than 43 mph. Maybe they’ll even be able to make it look like an ostrich instead. And at that point, we don’t want to see ANYONE in a car.
