What’s worse — a transit system that shuts down all the time because of malfunctions, or one that just powers through? St. Petersburg, Russia, chose the latter approach. This video shows what happens when a subway car’s doors are stuck open, and the conductor just shrugs and continues on.
In short: nothing too catastrophic. Nobody falls out, even though they’re leaning perilously close to the tunnel wall. Everyone gets a bit of a breeze. On the whole, totally worth avoiding the inconvenience of getting everyone off the train, then waiting for the next one to come along. But we can’t help imagining what it would have been like at rush hour.
