According to this chart from Climate Central, record lows are about to be an artifact of the past. This year, 90 percent of daily record temperatures in the lower 48 states were record highs. In the absence of global warming, you’d expect a 50/50 ratio between record highs and record lows.
One 2009 study predicted that the blue wedge will shrink to a barely-visible sliver over the next century. According to that model, record highs could outnumber record lows 20 to 1 by 2050, and 50 to 1 by 2100. So I guess good news if you hate being cold, bad news if you are a snowman or a polar bear or literally anything else.
