By now, everyone knows pink equals breast cancer awareness: As The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee notes, the tradition started by the Susan G. Komen Foundation extends to everything from T-shirts to fried chicken to yogurt. Oil company Baker Hughes has graciously decided to jump on the bandwagon by painting 1,000 fracking drill bits pink (and donating a whole $100,000 to the foundation’s efforts).
Given that some chemicals used in fracking are linked to cancer, is there any hypocrisy to be found here? Probably not, but we’ll let Bee and The Daily Show double check, just to make sure.
