Farbod Kasiri took this video out the window of his 31st-floor apartment, to show his Canadian friend why classes are canceled in the Philippines. Featured: streets like rivers, submerged buses, and cars with only their roofs emerging from the water.
Farbod doesn’t seem too fussed about the whole thing, because he’s like 19 and it’s not cool to freak out. He says it’s all “kind of normal” for Manila residents, really just an unexpected holiday from school (“but it’s also sad, because I know that people are dying and stuff”). But 250,000 people have been evacuated, and at least 50 have died in the floods. If that’s kind of normal, normal is kind of scary.
