Christmas Island, a small Australian isle rich in biological diversity and not in much else, isn’t above making a bad joke to attract attention to its resources. The tourism board posted some pictures of the island’s attractions with the somewhat pedophiliac caption: “Some gorgeous shots here of some juvenile boobies.”

There are red-footed boobies, brown boobies, and Abbott’s boobies — boobies in all shapes and sizes. You get the joke. It’s not particularly clever, but it’s not the worst joke ever made about boobies.

Facebook did not think it was funny. The ads featuring the pictures were banned, and Facebook told the tourism board that it was the sexual language — “particularly the use of the word ‘boobies,'” the marketing manager says. And that’s where it stands. No boobies on Facebook.
