We’ve seen animal sweaters used to warm oil-soaked penguins, protect balding hens, and promote Scotland tourism. But these crocheted turtle shell-cozies serve a different purpose: They keep your little guy from blending in with the grass of your yard. And they also make him an easy target for, say, hawks, but hey, no sweater is perfect.
The accessories (it’s not really clear that they are sweaters, actually, versus a kind of fancy belt or even a hat — turtles have confusing anatomy) come from Etsy user Katie Bradley, aka MossyTortoise, and they retail for a reasonable $13-$15. Bradley’s shop is also full of lovingly detailed watercolors of turtles and other reptiles, which is good because otherwise we’d suspect her of being a hawk or hawk sympathizer. I mean, look at this shit.
