Welcome back to Woman Crush Wednesday! In this week’s roundup, we’ve got women standing up to Big Ag, fracking, animal cruelty, and those on the conservative right continuing to throw shade on their uteri.
Here’s who we’ve been crushing on this week:
- Sarah Fritschner, the Kentucky-based food activist stocking schools and hospitals with locally grown food instead of sourcing from Big Ag. (Grist)
- Sheryl H. Ehrman, for her research suggesting that drilling for natural gas in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio is increasing air pollution in parts of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. (The Baltimore Sun)
- SeaWorld Trainer Barbie, who has officially tamed her last killer whale now that Mattel has cut ties with SeaWorld. (Grist)
- Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most renowned primatologists, who warns climate change may be happening “too quickly for evolutionary-type adaptations” to save certain species, like primates. ICYMI: Goodall also also just spoke out against SeaWorld, arguing that the amusement park’s method of captivity creates an “acoustical hell” for whales and dolphins. (The Guardian)
- Amy Schumer, for her new video about one woman’s quest for her birth control, a clever jab at the absolute strangers (ahem, Republican men) who also seem to think they have a say in her sex life. (Grist)
Stay tuned for next week’s roundup!
