If your first reaction upon learning that giant hornets are stinging people to death in China was “KILL IT WITH FIRE,” the Chinese army is one step ahead of you.
This video, from a year ago, shows what happens when the army is dispatched to deal with a hornet’s nest. Answer: They do not fuck around, because these things are terrifying. (The action starts around one minute.)
As we’ve mentioned, bees in Japan also deal with giant hornets by cooking them to death — they swarm the hornet, form a ball around it, and then “engage their flight muscles” to raise the heat in the enveloping bee-sphere. The army is just doing it more directly.
