October is National Non-GMO Month, so it’s a good time to ask yourself how much you really know about what exactly GMOs are, why they’re produced, and how prevalent they are. On that last point, most eaters remain in the dark, because the U.S. and Canada — unlike Japan, Australia, and the European Union — don’t require GMOs to be labeled as such, even though 80 percent of packaged foods in this country contain genetically engineered ingredients.
